Remove Ads from Gmail
Adblock Plus already remove the ad block on the right side but there is still a line of ads on top of the mails. To remove this line open adblock and add this filter:
mail.google.com##div[class="nH mq"]
Of course you can't read any RSS feeds there any more.

Wow, mir fehlen die Worte so beeindruckt bin ich...
Bisher hat sich Skype erfolgreich gewährt sich in anderen Software integrieren zu lassen und nun kommt imo.im daher und bietet nicht nur einen einfachen Skype-Chat, sondern gleich mit Audio und Video. Dazu ist die Seite noch super schnell und übersichtlich. Unterstützt werden auch MSN, Yahoo, AIM / ICQ, Google Talk, MySpace und Facebook.
Super ist auch die History durchsuchen Funktion, welche live Ergebnisse aus alle Chats anzeigt. Chatlogs kann man verschlüsselt speichern, wenn man das möchte. Die Seite gibt es auch in Deutsch und vielen anderen Sprachen, dank eines Innovativen benutzergestützem Übersetzungssystem.
Die Seite ist noch Alpha, aber jetzt schon erstaunlich gut.
Leider fehlt noch Jabber, aber das kommt sicher noch.

VMWare Remote Console and Firefox 3.6
Since I updated to Firefox 3.6 the VMWare plugin for web access to the remote console doesn't work anymore. I can view and restart my machines but but the console is failing with "Cannot access virtual machine console. The request timed out.".
In the forum I found a list of options how to solve this problem until the plugin will be updated. I was following Peter's suggestion to use the plugin files manually by creating a desktop short for the machine but that didn't work for me. So here is how to run the remote console by hand.
Find the VMWare plugin in your Firefox folder:
%USERPROFILE%\Anwendungsdaten\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uiu7quov.default\extensions\VMwareVMRC@vmware.com\plugins
You need to change uiu7quov.default to your profile folder.
From here you can connect to your vmware with:
vmware-vmrc.exe -h serverIP:8333 -M machineID
You should know your serverIP but you can find it together with the machineID in the web interface. Just select your VM and click right below "Commands" on "Gerate Virtual Machine Shortcut". The link from the web shortcut contains what you need:

Patente sind wie Atombomben
(Software) Patente sind wie Atombomben: Die Großen in der Branche greifen sich gegenseitig nicht an, weil sie sich sonst gegenseitig auslöschen (Mutual assured destruction), und die Kleinen bleiben für immer Entwicklungsländer.
Diese Raubkopiert wurde erbeutet aus einem heise Kommentar zum Blog von Ex Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz, der erzählt wie er Patentklagen von Apple und Microsoft abgewehrt hat.
Disclaimer: Ich denke nicht das Patente an sich schlecht sind, nur das man keine Patente auf triviale Erfindungen geben darf, wie das besonders bei Software häufig passiert. Zudem sollten Software Patente nur eine geringe Gültigkeit haben. Bei Wikipedia habe ich was von 20 und 8 Jahre gelesen. Vor 10 Jahren wurde Windows 98 durch 2000 abgelöst, das heißt das in dieser Zeit 4 Software Generationen an uns vorbei gezogen sind, bei anderen Anwendungen wie Browsern wesentlich mehr. Patente blockieren hier die Entwicklung unverhältnismäßig, da die Branche sich viel schneller weiterentwickelt.

Skype und Port 80
Skype nutzt falls nötig Port 80 um an Firewalls vorbei zu kommen. Aber auch wenn das nicht nötig ist blockiert es den Port. Das stört sehr, wenn man einen lokalen Apache laufen lassen will.
Zum Glück kann man das in Skype abschalten:
Aktionen -> Optionen (-> Erweitert) -> Verbindung -> Häkchen
